The National Youth Orchestra usually meets for three work periods each year which take two or three weeks: in winter (December/January), in spring (Easter), and in summer (July/August).  The beginning of a work period consists of sectional rehearsals under the direction of experienced teachers. These sectionals are followed by tutti rehearsals led by the conductor and a concert tour that immediately follows the rehearsal period.
