Advisory board
The German Music Council appoints an advisory board to assist with project work. The goal is participation in the formulation and development of ideas that will lead to improve conditions for musical culture in Germany. These advisors are expected to oversee and assist the project work of the Music Council, take part in the Council's overall policy discussions and, with the approval of the management board, direct the planning and realization of individual projects. The members of the advisory board are:
Stefan Piendl
Stefan Piendl is a member of the German Music Council's Board of Directors and was Senior Vice President and CEO of BMG Classics as well as Managing Director of EMI Classics Germany.
Werner Burkhoff
Werner Burkoff is assistant chair of the German Orchestra Union (DOV) and a violinist in the Radio Symphony Orchestra of the Southwest German Radio in Stuttgart.
Prof. Dr. Franz Müller-Heuser
Prof. Dr. Franz Müller-Heuser, an honorary member of the German Music Council, was the Council's President from 1988 until 2003. For more than 20 years, he was Director of the Hochschule for Music in Cologne, and was later named Director of the Hochschule for Music in Nuernberg- Augsburg, founded in 1998.
Christoph Held
Christoph Held in an editor for the West German Radio in the music division of WDR 3. He is member of the jury for the European Broadcasting Union's international choral competition, "Let the People Sing".
Dr. Uli Kostenbader
Dr. Uli Kostenbader is chair of the Advisory Board of the National Youth Orchestra. He is member of both the Board of Directors of the German Music Council and the Supervisory Board of the German Music Council's Non-Profit Project Organization.
Dr. Christian Kuhnt
The musicologist Dr. Christian Kuhnt is director of the Konzertdirektion Dr. Rudolf Goette in Hamburg. He used to be artistic director of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival and artistic advisor for the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg.
Matthias Pannes
Matthias Pannes is the national chief executive of the "Verband deutscher Musikschulen" (Association of German Musical Schools) since 2005. Furthermore he is board member of the "Bundesvereinigung Kulturelle Kinder- und Jugendbildung" (National Association for Cultural Education of Children and Youths).
Dr. Dieter Rexroth
Dr Dieter Rexroth is artistic director of both the Young Euro Classic festival in Berlin and the Kassel Music Festival. He is also advisor to the Bavarian State opera.
Thomas Rietschel
Thomas Reitschel was named President of the Hochschule for Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt in April 2004. He was for many years the general secretary of Jeunesses Musicales Germany.
Prof. Ingeborg Scheerer
Prof. Ingeborg Scheerer is professor of violin at the Hochschule for Music in Cologne and performs as a violinist and violist with Camerata Köln. She is active as a teacher for the National Youth Orchestra.
Prof. Bernhard Wulff
Bernhard Wulff ia a professor for percussion at the Hochschule for Music in Freiburg and director of the Roarind Hooves Music Festival in Mongolia. He has directed the percussion sectional rehearsals of the National Youth Orchestra for many years.
Sönke Lentz
Sönke Lentz has been Project Director of the German National Youth orchestra since 2003.
