"Nordic DNA" – Programmatically, the National Youth Orchestra of Germany is heading to the far north in the summer of 2023. For the commissioned composition for accordion and orchestra by the American-Swedish composer Daniel Nelson, the young musicians will receive support from the Lithuanian accordionist Martynas Levickis, who is celebrated worldwide with his "magic bag of tricks". In addition to Richard Strauss' "Don Juan" op. 20, two works by Finnish composers are on the programme: Jean Sibelius' last completed Symphony No. 7 and Esa-Pekka Salonen's "Helix" for Orchestra, which is designed as a spiral and ten-minute accelerando. The musical direction will be taken over by Clemens Schuldt, former violinist of the National Youth Orchestra of Germany, scholarship holder of the Forum Dirigieren (2011 to 2014) and former chief conductor of the Münchener Kammerorchester.
