    We Take Music into Schools

    Teaser

There is something special about “School Session”, one of the BJO’s (National Youth Orchestra of Germany) musical outreach programs. The moderators, aged 14 to 19, are also members of the orchestra, almost the same age as their listeners. In clear and understandable terms, these young musicians answer questions about life in the orchestra and the music they play: “What part of Germany do most of the players come from?” “How old is the youngest member?” “What does the conductor talk about?” “Which position and which pieces are the most difficult?”

    Classical Music Can Be Fun

School children between the ages of 8 and 16 have the chance to directly experience a variety of works and see that young people barely older than themselves can have a great deal of fun playing classical music, so much so that they gladly give up some of their free time and holidays. The enthusiastic response to the “School Session” project has confirmed the orchestra’s belief that the BJO is particularly well suited to introduce young listeners to classical music.
