In Good Hands

The National Youth Orchestra of Germany does not have a permanent Principal Conductor. Each work period is directed by a different conductor. More than 70 world-famous as well as promising young conductors have stood on the podium of this youthful ensemble, among them Sir Simon Rattle, Kirill Petrenko, Kurt Masur, and Herbert von Karajan.

Since 2018, Sir Simon Rattle is Conductor Laureate of the National Youth Orchestra: “What an enormous pleasure to meet this wonderful next generation of colleagues! I think the future of orchestras is safe in your hands.” Ever since the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra became the National Youth Orchestra's Official Mentoring Orchestra in 2013, Sir Simon has regularly stood at the podium of the highly esteemed young orchestra. The National Youth Orchestra of Germany is delighted about the joint perspective that has now emerged.
